\u201cBi-bli-o-logia: The Book as Body\u201d stages the connections, associations and nteractions that bind together the book and the human body. It presents a simple idea: unlike other objects that are purely functional (an umbrella, a box, a chair), books initiate complex exchanges; they enrich our world, affect our perceptions, stimulate our sensations, and trigger our emotions. Knowledge perpetuates itself in books. They are the crossroads where one\u2019s consciousness pursues the consciousness of the other, the dwellings where communities are founded or dismantled and faiths are united and untied.
\nThe exhibition brings together methodologies from the disciplines of material culture, ethnography, and fine art in order to question both the use value and the exhibition value of books. Eschewing any form of hierarchy, it scrutinizes the boundaries that distinguish a book from a work of art, a library from a museum, and a site of exhibition from a site of remembrance. \u201cBi-bli-o-logia: The Book as Body\u201d challenges the position of the reader, the artist, the archivist, the thinker, the writer, the designer, and the curator alike.
\nThis is an exhibition about traces. It presents the people engaged in producing, collecting, looting, rescuing, digitizing, curating, and reading the works on view\u2014their hands, their touch.<\/p>\n
